Terms & Conditions of Membership

Participation in the inCompass Panel and use of the inCompass website is subject to the following Terms and Conditions. We reserve the right to amend or change these Terms and Conditions, so please ensure you read these Terms and Conditions regularly (on the website​ ​{{getLandingPageFullUrl() || 'here'}} if you have access to it or the latest version that has been posted to you if you do not have access to the website). By joining the panel or using inCompass website, you accept that you must abide by these Terms and Conditions.

1) Ownership of the panel.

The inCompass panel and the panel website, referred to as “the Panel” are owned and controlled by Ipsos MORI UK Limited (Company No: 01640855) whose registered office is situated at 3 Thomas More Square, London, E1W 1YW. Ipsos MORI UK Limited, commonly known as “Ipsos MORI” is a specialist market research agency and part of the Ipsos world-wide group of market research companies. Ipsos is a member of the Market Research Society and, as such, abides by the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct and supporting market research regulations and guidelines.

2) Membership of the Panel.

Membership of the Panel is restricted to individuals aged 16 or over. Employees of Ipsos and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates and immediate family are not eligible to join, or if already members remain members of, this panel. Ipsos reserves the right to refuse any membership applications and/or terminate membership without giving a reason.

Membership is free and is personal to you. You may not transfer your membership to anyone else.

The Panel is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Most of the “Content” made available to members consists of survey responses, comments or other contributions provided by panel members. As a result, IPSOS does not accept any liability for any Content, including, but not limited to, for any errors or omissions in any Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed, transmitted or otherwise made available via the Panel. IPSOS does not provide warranties of any kind express or implied.

IPSOS shall not be liable for any losses, costs or expenses, howsoever caused, arising out of your membership of the panel or use of the panel website (including indirect, consequential or incidental losses, costs or damages)

Some panel members will be invited to download and install one or more of Ipsos’s research apps. If you are one of those panellists, please be aware that Ipsos will collect browsing information of anyone​ who is using the device.

There are two types of inCompass panels which you may be invited to join; one panel involves completing a Diary, and the other involves installation of the MediaCell+ app on your smartphone. You will NOT be eligible to join our inCompass panels if:

  • You have already signed up to one of the panels e.g. if you have joined our inCompass Diary panel, you will not be eligible to join our inCompass MediaCell+ app panel and vice versa. This includes signing up twice or more for the same panel. Any duplicate memberships will be excluded from the panel and will not be eligible for any incentives
  • Another member of your household has already joined the panel
  • You are already a member of another panel which involves the installation of an app on your smartphone or PC/Laptop/Tablet

3) Termination.

Ipsos will close the Panel when the research programme ends or is cancelled. IPSOS will inform all panel members by email of the Panel being closed, at which point your access to it will cease.

You can terminate your membership of this panel at any time, by clicking unsubscribe in any email correspondence you receive from the inCompass team or by writing into us.

Ipsos also reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to immediately and without notice, suspend or terminate your Panel membership, or your ability to access the Panel upon any breach by you of these Terms and Conditions.

4) Your information.

In order to register as a member of the panel, you will be asked to provide your name, personal email address and other personal information. You are responsible for ensuring this information is true and accurate, and for ensuring it is kept up to date. You will also be asked to provide further information when you complete any of the panel surveys or online diaries. Some panel members may also be invited to download and install one or more of Ipsos’s special research apps onto their PC/laptop, tablets or smartphones. If you are one of those panel members and have agreed to install the app(s) requested, those apps will also collect additional information as described to you when you are invited to participate in the panel. 5) Responsible membership.

Whilst we encourage panel members to communicate freely and express their opinions, everyone has the right to feel safe and not be exposed to unlawful, threatening, abusive or other objectionable comments, material or other content. However, all the information messages or any other material – “Content” - posted to the Panel is the sole responsibility of the person who posts it. Ipsos does not pre-screen Content before it is posted to the Panel, which means members may be exposed to content that may be opinionated, offensive, indecent or objectionable if members do not behave responsibly.

To help ensure responsible behaviour, you must not use this Panel to:

  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libellous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable; Masked vulgarity, obscenity or profanity (e.g. “f*ck”) is deemed to be equivalent to including the actual objectionable word, phrase or symbol in your post, message or otherwise on in the Panel.
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is sexually oriented (unless within the scope of the topic area of a message board as determined by IPSOS at its sole discretion);
  • Harm minors in any way;
  • Impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, an IPSOS official, Panel leader, guide or host, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;
  • Forge headers or otherwise manipulate identifiers in order to disguise the origin of any Content transmitted through the Panel;
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that you do not have a right to make available under any law or under contractual relationships (such as inside information, proprietary and confidential information learned or disclosed as part of employment relationships or under nondisclosure agreements);
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights ("Rights") of any party;
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation;
  • Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;
  • Disrupt the normal flow of dialogue, cause a screen to "scroll" faster than other users of the Panel are able to type, or otherwise act in a manner that negatively affects other users' ability to engage in real time exchanges;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Panel or servers or networks connected to the Panel, or disobey any requirements, procedures, policies or regulations of networks connected to the Panel;
  • Intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, provincial, state, national or international law;
  • "Stalk" or otherwise harass another;
  • Collect or store personal data about other users;

Ipsos reserves the right to refuse or remove any Content that is posted via the Panel that breaches these terms and conditions. We also reserve the right to revoke the membership of any Panel member who breaches any of the above conditions. Such actions may also result in civil or criminal proceedings against you.

6) Copyright.

The Panel, and the information made available to you through the Panel website and other communications may be protected by copyright, trademarks, service marks, patents or other proprietary rights and laws. Except as expressly authorized by Ipsos, you are not permitted to rent, lease, loan, sell, distribute or create derivative works based on the Panel or the Software, in whole or in part.

You agree that you will not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade, resell or exploit for any commercial purposes, any portion of the Panel (including your Panel username), any content within the Panel, your use of the Panel or your access to it.

7) Incentives.

All incentives will be made by e-gift vouchers, e-gift codes for respondents with access to the internet, love2shop vouchers for respondents without internet access. The full range can be found on the website.

Panel Members will receive:

Panel Members who are requested to complete diary only:

£5 for submitting a completed diary (diary only panellists will be invited typically every 4 weeks to fill out a diary).

Panel Members who are requested to complete diary and install app(s) to their own devices:

£5 for submitting a completed diary (typically 4 times per year)

£10 for downloading the MediaCell+ app on their smartphone

£10 for smartphone panellists for each month of participation in compliance with the following rules:

  • Carry your Smartphone (with the MediaCell+​ app running) with you at all times of the day, including from room to room whilst at home, for the whole of the period you participate in this study.
  • Ensure your Smartphone is switched on at all times, including whilst charging.
  • Charge your Smartphone only when needed and avoid daytime charging.
  • Ensure your Smartphone is connected to the internet at least daily via Wi-Fi or mobile internet.
  • Install inCompass​ App to other devices you use to access the internet.

Panel Members who are requested to only carry a device sent by Ipsos:

£10 for panellists for each month of participation in compliance with the following rules:

  • Carry your sent device (with the MediaCell​ App running) with you at all times of the day, including from room to room whilst at home, for the whole of the period you participate in this study
  • Ensure your sent device is switched on at all times, including whilst charging.
  • Charge your sent device only when needed and avoid daytime charging.
  • Ensure your sent device is connected to the internet at least daily via Wi-Fi or mobile internet provided by Ipsos’ mobile service provider.
  • Take reasonable care of the device and return it to Ipsos at the point you decide to leave the panel, or when the panel closes.

Panel Members who are requested to only carry a device sent by Ipsos and install app(s) to their own devices:

£5 for submitting a completed diary (typically 4 times per year)

£10 for panellists for each month of participation in compliance with the following rules:

  • Carry your sent device (with the MediaCell​ App running) with you at all times of the day, including from room to room whilst at home, for the whole of the period you participate in this study
  • Ensure your sent device is switched on at all times, including whilst charging.
  • Charge your sent device only when needed and avoid daytime charging.
  • Ensure your sent device is connected to the internet at least daily via Wi-Fi or mobile internet provided by Ipsos’ mobile service provider.
  • Take reasonable care of the device and return it to Ipsos at the point you decide to leave the panel, or when the panel closes.
  • Install inCompass​ App to other devices you use to access the internet.

8) Links to other websites.

The Panel website may provide links to other web sites or on-line resources. Because Ipsos has no control over such sites and resources we cannot any accept any responsibility or liability for those sites or resources. We cannot guarantee the availability of such external sites or resources, nor do we endorse any Content, advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources.

You acknowledge and agree that Ipsos shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such Content, goods or services available on or through any such site or resource.

9) Technology requirements.

In order to access some of the Panel features and/or content you may need to have Flash player 7 installed on your computer. You may also need to ensure your Internet browser accepts use of Java Script and cookies. Emails sent by IPSOS will be in HTML format, as this allows us to send panellists more elaborate survey invitations and newsletters. For example, photos or graphics can be inserted or text can be formatted.

10) Jurisdiction.

These terms and conditions will be governed by laws of England and the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
